Going green with a little busy sky thinking!
When it comes to the environment, we don’t want our delicious sweets to leave a bitter taste in your mouth. That's why we’ve been working hard to reduce the impact we have on the environment, in several different ways. Read on to find out how...
The Story of the Tin
When John Mackintosh first produced the QUALITY STREET tin in 1936, little did he know that he was also creating a household favourite, beloved of cake-bakers, button collectors and lego-lovers alike.
Back in the day, sweets were mostly packaged in glass jars. These were handy for displaying the colourful treats inside, but were also heavy, costly to throw away and easily breakable. Mackintosh’s tins were eye-catching, light, unbreakable, easy to transport, and offered a thousand-and-one uses once the sweets had been enjoyed. Over the years, the sweet combination inside them has been updated but the brightly coloured, iconic tins have remained.
Today, almost three quarters of QUALITY STREET consumers re-use their tin. But that hasn’t stopped us wanting to make sure that the tin itself is as environmentally responsible as possible. We’ve been working hard to reduce the amount of metal used for each tin and we always make sure we give clear recycling advice wherever we can. As a result of these developments we won first prize in the Sustainability category in the Best in Metal Awards 2008.
QUALITY STREET is the first brand of chocolate assortment to use compostable wrappers, and we're proud to announce that our green thinking was rewarded with first prize in the Best Marketing Initiative category in the European Bioplastics Awards 2008.
